Wally's Delicatessen featured in double-page
article in the Summer 2009 issue of City Life |
|
| |
|
|
| |
In this article, owner
Steven Salamon tells how Wally's Delicatessen was founded by his father, Wally Salamon in
1981. He goes on to say that the origins of the shop go back all the way to pre-war Austria,
where his Polish-born grandfather ran a general store in a small village near
Vienna.
Steven also explains how
and when he joined the family business and why he feels that Wally's Delicatessen has been
able to trade continuously for the past 28 years, during which time many food retailers have
been forced to close.

Wallys Delicatessen Store Expansion
2009 |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Monday, 8th June 2009,
marked the dawn of a bright new era at Wally's Delicatessen as we opened our new, expanded
premises to customers for the first time.
As many of you will know,
we have been trading from our shop in the Royal Arcade in Cardiff for over 28 years. During
that time, our product range has increased steadily and it became necessary to expand in
order to continue to meet the needs of our customers.
Consequently, we were
recently able to acquire the lease for the adjoining premises and this enabled us to double
our floor space and further expand our range of speciality foods and
drinks.

In the
Summer 2006 edition of Ladies First, which is a regional publication for the gentler sex, Wally's
Delicatessen was described as "a Cardiff
institution" and "purveyors of fine foods from across Europe". I am not sure how some of our longest serving employees feel about spending
most of their lives in an institution, but I will ask them and let you know what they
say!
